Beauty is in the Eye of the Be(er)holder.

We like big butts, and we cannot lie. The evolution of the word beautiful has changed since the day Cosmo first hit the newsstands. What we once thought to be gorgeous, divine, and beautiful is now no longer enough to satisfy societies perverse ideologies. What we once thought as alluring:

now no longer delights us the way it used to. We now see alluring as:

Ladies and Gentlemen, I’d like to present you with a question…what the hell?

Has society become such a putrid place that we would rather trade natural beauty for straight up skank? And I’m not only referring to Daisy de la Hoya either. I’m speaking of all the ways that we have brainwashed ourselves and have let these warped ideas trickle down through the generations. Back in the 1990′s, there was rarely such a thing as a “Jr. High Slut”, and the only time we were able to see a few in one place, was on an episode of Maury. Nowadays, it’s used almost in an enduring manner.

Now this blog is not meant to be a rant about how corporate America is telling us what to be, but rather it’s a request by myself. Please oh please, bring back the class. Beautiful should not be a synonym for partially nude.

As famous as the “Evolution of Dance” is, I don’t believe it is the most famous of memes. When Ray Allen and Kobe Bryant got caught up in a scramble in 2007, the internet immediately latched onto this fight and turned it into a worldwide sensation. The video can be found at this link.

Never Cheer The Good Guy

September 16, 2009 at 4:05 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Professional wrestling has been doing it for years. They build a strong heel (bad guy) up, and just when he looks unstoppable, a face (good guy) comes along to defeat him. The villain has been an important role in society since the dawn of mythology. People need to root against someone so their hero will win. But what happens when the person who is suppose to be the intended bad guy…is getting cheered? We all love the villain. Deep down in the bottom of our hearts we adore the bad guy. Think about it. When the Dark Knight first came out last summer, people weren’t talking about how sweet the Batman was. People were talking about how wickedly evil and chilling the Joker was. Heath Ledger (RIP) made us cheer for the maniacally insane killer. We crave for a good bad guy.

In every industry there is a bad guy. However, we have not seen one in the entertainment industry in awhile…until now. Kanye West has stepped up to the plate in a big way whether he intended for this to happen or not. Now some people may go to his shows just to boo him instead of hearing his music. There is no doubt that his musical ability is almost unparalleled by any other artist in his genre. He, however, may have figured out a new way to sell tickets. Now just as a side note, the villain is getting our cheers, but who is getting our boos? The good guy of course. Sometimes, the good guy becomes so great that the public goes “….uhhhh. No.” and they begin to reject what is advertised to us as the thing that stands for truth, justice, and the imminent fall of the villain. If there’s no villain, what fun is that? Below is a clip of WWE’s Monday Night Raw. The intended good guy is in jeans while the other is playing the villain in this match.

Why I Was Afraid of the Dark

September 12, 2009 at 4:24 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 Comment

We’ve all watched it, and if you haven’t watched it, you’ve heard of it, and lets face it, if you haven’t heard of it, then you didn’t grow up in the 90′s. It’s the show that was kid friendly enough to watch, but scary enough that we didn’t want to. Are You Afraid of the Dark brought nightmares to kids under the age of 12 for years. Is it because of this reason that I am able to fully enjoy a scary movie or a good twist in plot? Possibly. But one thing is for sure…Are You Afraid of the Dark scared the CRAP out of me as a child.

So nearly a decade later, I knew I had to check it out again. I remembered which episodes scared me the most, and with a combination of Wikipedia and my so called intellect, I was able to locate their episode names. So armed with a list of episodes and an internet connection, I made my way into the wonderland known as YouTube. After watching a few episodes, I had myself a revelation. As cheesy as the acting, storyline, and graphics were, the ones that did not end with a happy ending were still creepy. One that stuck with me then and still does was The Tale of the Pinball Wizard. It was about a boy who loved pinball and was transported inside a pinball machine. He eventually triumphed, but was greeted with an unpleasant surprise…he’d have to keep defeating the game over and over for all eternity. Just the idea of having to keep playing for your life until the day you die is as creepy as an R-rated blockbuster…or a gothic painting?

The show itself is very cheesy, yes, but at it’s darkest moment is none other than a dark work of art. The idea of never being able to escape/something that is hunting you or something that is hunting the ones you love. Granted, the show was made for kids…but it was also made to scare little kids. If given the right momentum and imagination, the scary idea in a kids world can become a scary idea in our world. So if you don’t believe that Are Your Afraid of the Dark is a scary show, think again.
